I'm wearing my octopus-brandishing-a-sailboat t-shirt today. There's something very Herman Melville-
esque about it. Dark Romanticism, the horror of nature, the precariousness of sea travel, gazing into the
fiery eyes of God's creation and seeing incomprehensible terror and animal vengeance staring back at you. Man vs. Nature, and you know Nature wins every time.
Yes, quite literary indeed. But apparently only to me, since someone just walked up to my cube and told me that the octopus on my shirt was really cute.
No! Not cute! Allusory! Clever! Literary! Oh, she's probably right -- it was probably not Herman Melville who inspire this shirt. But I'm reinterpreting it, dammit, for Herm.
